We're so glad you're here!
Welcome to Our Research Project: Exploring Creativity and Emotions
Whether you received a link directly from Veronica or you've been referred to us by a trusted source, we're delighted to have you here. This summer, we're conducting research on the intersection and interaction between creativity and emotions, and how they are used "out in the wild" with people like you.
At the heart of this research lies a profound belief: that creativity and emotional intelligence are not just buzzwords but essential ingredients for success and fulfillment, and they are elements that are innately human, that set us apart from smart tech, and are in increasing demand.
Below you'll find more information on this research project, including who we're interested in interviewing and why. When you're ready, please use this link or one of the buttons throughout this page to begin scheduling your interview and signing your consent form.
What is Creative Intelligence (CQ)?
Despite its importance, there remains a notable gap in research exploring the intersection of emotions and creativity, particularly within the context of Creative Intelligence (CQ). While both emotions (or emotional intelligence) and creativity have been studied extensively, there is limited research examining how these two constructs interact and complement each other. Veronica coined the term "Creative Intelligence," which may not be widely recognized in academic or professional circles, but it represents a valuable framework for exploring the complex interplay between creativity and emotional intelligence in the context of personal and professional development.
CQ in this context is the synergistic interaction between high or engaged emotional intelligence and the capacity for greater creative thinking. It encompasses the ability to transcend the fight-flight-flee response, associated with survival mode, and access expansive, innovative thinking. CQ enables individuals to navigate challenges with resilience, embrace uncertainty with curiosity, and generate novel solutions through a blend of emotional insight, adaptability, and imaginative thinking.
CQ represents a multifaceted and dynamic approach to problem-solving, innovation, and adaptability. It encompasses the ability to generate novel ideas, think flexibly, and approach challenges with an open mind. At its core, CQ goes beyond traditional notions of creativity (think: art, music, theater) to encompass a broader spectrum of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral skills that contribute to innovative thinking and creative problem-solving.
Why This Research Matters:
In a world where change is constant and challenges are multifaceted and increasingly complex, the ability to think creatively and navigate our emotions effectively has never been more critical. The World Economic Forum recognizes creativity and emotional intelligence as highly sought after skills; it's been agreed by experts across industries that the future of work requires greater creativity and emotional intelligence.
However, while many recognize the importance of these qualities, few offer tangible steps on how to cultivate them effectively. We're on a mission to fill that gap—to provide practical strategies, actionable insights, and real-world examples that empower individuals across industries and roles to harness their creative potential and develop their emotional intelligence in meaningful ways.
Individuals with high levels of Creative Intelligence are better equipped to navigate uncertainty, capitalize on opportunities, and thrive in diverse environments. From business leaders and entrepreneurs to educators and healthcare professionals, the ability to harness Creative Intelligence is essential for thriving in the future - and the now.
What We'll Do With This Research:
The intention is to compile compelling stories, intersperse them with reliable Applied Creativity techniques, and write a book that will help people across industries better understand how valuable creativity is in work and life, how it's already being used, and ways they can grow their own Creative Intelligence capacity.
What We're Looking For:
It's our position that creativity is not reserved for a special few, but is in fact what makes us human. We all have our own capacity to think creatively and express it in various forms, yes from artistic output, but also to solving problems, thinking outside the box, and making a positive impact in your community or industry.
We're seeking individuals from all backgrounds and professions who embody the spirit of creativity and emotional intelligence in their lives. Whether you're a household name or an impactful player, your insights and experiences are invaluable contributions to our research.

Who are we?
Hi - I'm Veronica Scarpellino, the founder of Goldfinch Leadership and a Creativity and Innovation Coach. I've spent my career working with and around incredibly talented people who consider themselves creative, and I've learned many commonalities that make them successful. They span industries, blurring the lines about what it means to be creative, and I believe our current definition of creativity is painfully and harmfully limiting. It turns out our definition of creativity is a 20th C. construct, and it's time to shake things up.
I use this philosophy in my coaching of individuals and teams, and it's empowering for my clients to embrace their unique creative thinking capabilities. I believe that creative thinking can change people, and creative people can change the world. If I can help talented and innovative people be even more effective at their work, we may just be able to solve some of the world's most existential problems.
